JAKE BENNIE, Wine Director

Jake Bennie brings over two decades of hospitality experience as Wine Director at Sepia and Proxi. His journey in the restaurant industry, spanning more than 20 years, reflects a deep commitment to creating exceptional dining experiences. Though relatively new to the wine industry, Jake's passion for wine and its history is evident in his thoughtful approach to curating wine programs that perfectly complement the culinary visions of his restaurants.

Originally from Manhattan, Kansas, Jake's career has taken him through various cities, including Lincoln, Nebraska, and New Orleans, before he established roots in Chicago in 2016 to be closer to his family. Since then, he has immersed himself in the vibrant Chicago dining scene, gaining valuable insights and honing his wine selection and hospitality management expertise.

Jake thrives on the excitement of pairing wines with dishes, ensuring guests have a cohesive and memorable dining experience. He draws inspiration from industry leaders like Bobby Stuckey of Frasca in Boulder, renowned for his genuine hospitality, and Josh Perlman, known for curating dynamic and fresh wine lists.

Before joining Sepia and Proxi, Jake held key roles, including Beverage Director and Assistant General Manager at Rose Mary, and contributed to the renowned Girl and the Goat. Mentors like Joe Briand, former GM and Wine Director at Herbsaint, and Molly Wismeier, former Wine Director at Restaurant R’evolution shaped his dedication to wine.

Outside of his professional life, Jake enjoys exploring new restaurants with his wife, Katherine, and spending time with their beloved dog. His enthusiasm for discovering wines that enhance the dining experience continues to drive his success at Sepia and Proxi, where he aims to create wine programs that delight and surprise guests with every visit.
